The Beautiful Blue-naped Chlorophonias in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

October 5, 2021 Birds, Birds from Colombia, My Solo Trip, The most beautiful places in Colombia

Blue-naped Chlorophonia (Chlorophonia cyanea) is a resident bird at the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, one of my most beautiful places. On each trip, my heart hurts when I have to say goodbye to its mountains. I believe that at some point in my life, I will have to spend a long time wrapped in its magical clouds, enjoying the birds, the powerful storms, and the brilliant and golden sunrises and sunsets.

Today I will start by telling you about the birds I found, and I chose an exceptional one, Blue-naped Chlorophonia. This little bird has colorful and breathtaking feathers, the female is a little paler, but it does not make her less beautiful. Chlorophonias hide among the cloud forest foliage and live in the highlands and on the lower slopes, even near the sea level, from Central America to Brazil.

While a torrential downpour fell, I observed them and enjoyed their company for several hours; The rain didn’t bother them, so I followed their example, wrapped up in my rain poncho, and started photographing them. I had all the time to play with the camera and catch the raindrops as they fell or splashed; I also tried to capture the tiny spheres of water trapped between its spectacular plumage.

I have so many images that it was challenging to choose among them, but these are my favorites.
