Rufous-tailed Jacamar

September 23, 2019 Birds from Colombia

The first time I saw a Rufous-tailed Jacamar was in Chocó, Colombia. Chocó is located on the Pacific coast, and it’s a very isolated area. In order to go there, you need to travel by a small plane or by boat, because there are not roads to cross the deep jungle.

The whole territory is covered by dense rainforest, it’s really hot and humid, but once you get there, you forget about everything and just feel you are in paradise.

The Rufous-tailed Jacamar was deep into the jungle, and my guides took me through a small path under the canopy. It was absolutely beautiful. The incredible variety of vegetation colorful flowers, insects, and of course birds.

The second time I saw it was in Colombia’s Amazon Region. It’s a beautiful bird!
