Earth Day 2024

April 22, 2024 My travel Journal

On April 22, 1970, Earth Day was observed for the first time, and since then, it has been celebrated not as a day to exalt the beauty of our planet but to warn about the irreparable damage we are inflicting on it.

This year, the topic is plastics, especially single-use ones.

I join this campaign to raise awareness of our responsibility for the terrible pollution of our watersheds and oceans.

As I walk through the forests, rivers, and beaches in search of beauty, I always find more and more plastic bottles, bags, and packaging among the mangroves, on the banks of the rivers, and secluded beaches.

Our rivers and seas try unsuccessfully to return the garbage we have thrown away, but 40% of the sea surface is now covered in plastics.

What can we do? Let’s start by always carrying our shopping bags, water bottles, food containers, and coffee cups that are not plastic or disposable.
