ANDEAN COCK-OF-THE-ROCK, RUPICOLA PERUVIANUS
The Andean cock-of-the-rock is distributed in the cloud forests of the Andes.
It lives in a large range across Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, and Bolivia, mostly in gorges and forested streams in montane areas from 500 to 2,400 m.a.s.l. in Colombia, is located in the three mountain ranges.

It feeds mainly on high-protein fruits, arthropods, and amphibians. Juveniles also have small vertebrates in their diet.

Build a cup-shaped nest at the entrance of caves or on rock walls, in which it lays two white eggs with brown spots. It is an elusive species but can be observed in forest edges capturing fruits on the fly, looking for or simply resting.
